Invisalign

How Invisalign Works

After you and your dentist or orthodontist agree that Invisalign is the way to go, the dentist will take photographs, impressions, and x-rays of your mouth, which they will then send in to the Invisalign laboraty. The Invisalign technicians put these impressions through a CT scan, in order to create a 3D model of your mouth. They then prepare the stages your mouth will experience in the computer model, according to your dentist’s recommendations. The software will then simulate the movements of your teeth in these different stages, which the dentist can view online and accept it if they like what they see, or make modifications to the treatment. Some teeth may need to be rotated, or moved more than others. The dentist will attach devices called anchors are attatched to these teeth, made from a clear cement like substance.

The aligners are recommended to be worn 20-22 hours per day. The average treatment length is about one year to 18 months, but varies from case to case. When treatment is complete, a retainer is created using very similar material. This retainer is usually worn only at night to prevent the teeth from shifting.
